Foundation’s very first fundraiser takes place in Derry

The Lorna Byrne Children’s Foundation held it’s very first fundraising event at the Everglades Hotel in Derry on Thursday 21st May 2015. The event which was organised in conjunction with one of the foundation’s chosen charities APA – A Partnership with Africa’s local Derry committee saw Lorna being interviewed by well known broadcaster Frances Campbell. The event raised over €7,000 and all proceeds will be split equally between the foundation’s chosen charities for 2015.

Lorna Byrne Children’s Foundation confirms chosen charities.

The Lorna Byrne Children’s Foundation today confirmed it’s chosen charities for 2015/2016. These organisations are working tirelessly to change the lives of children for the better both in Ireland and around the world. In 2015 and 2016 all proceeds raised by the Lorna Byrne Children’s Foundation will be split equally between:

  • Unicef Ireland’s Syria Appeal Today, in Syria and the surrounding countries, more than 14 million children are in desperate need of humanitarian support. Unicef is delivering clean water, sanitation, education, medical care, immunisation services and psychosocial care to millions of displaced children and their families.
  • APA – A Partnership with Africa is fighting for the human rights of a large number of marginalised children and young women in Ethiopia and Tanzania who are extremely vulnerable, exposed to abuse, HIV/AIDS infection and relentless violence.
  • Blue Box For many children in Limerick, emotional and psychological trauma is a daily reality. Blue Box uses Creative Therapies (art, play, music, drama, dance & movement) to remove the emotional blocks that stop traumatised children from learning. The Blue Box Creative Therapy Centre is only centre of its kind in Ireland and in Europe.

The Foundation also have commitment from a number of financial patrons to support the operational costs of the foundation for 2015 and 2016 so that as much of the money raised as possible can go directly to the three chosen charities.
