2021 was a very busy year for The Lorna Byrne Children’s Foundation, taking on a number of new projects! As you know we are committed to helping vulnerable children affected by many injustices including poverty, illness, grief, war, natural disasters, all across the world including Ireland.
Even in Ireland, food poverty is a very real issue in some areas. And as we know, it is widely recognised that food provision is key in supporting attendance, participation, and retention in schools. We are so delighted to commit to a NEW programme of food provision for a local school for the coming terms.
We also work with another local school in Ireland which provides education to children with general learning disabilities within either the moderate or severe range. Many of these pupils have additional needs such as sensory impairments, physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and on occasion behaviours of concern.
Each of these children require different and very often tailored tools and equipment to help on their school journey. Anything from books and pencils to iPads and educational apps, to sensory toys; the list is endless and costly. This is where we help, helping to build a bank of resources to help as many children as possibly communicate, have fun, learn and be heard, and be happy.
Similarly, we work with a third school in Ireland with children having physical and sensory impairment. This particular school was able to build a brand new soft play area but didn’t have the funds to buy any the essential sensory toys and equipment. Again, we are helping the school to purchase a bank of these essential resources.
Together we can help these children. To support our work please visit see www.foundation.lornabyrne.com/donate
